Video: Note: NHK videos will be available on demand until 2 weeks after the end of the Basho. After that, they will be removed from the site. They are usually available for on demand viewing about 1 day after the matches. Note that "highlights" means complete full match video of all daily Makuuchi matches.

Day 2 Video highlights (replays of all 21 matches--NHK) (27:00)

JSA Youtube has offered 2 full matches on its Youtube channel. Hopefully they will do this every day. It is a live feed, no commentary, but it gives another perspective on these matches.

2. Daishoho (J12e--0-1) v Abi (J14e--1-0) (this is a Juryo (2nd Divsion) match. Abi is in the black belt.

Abi was a regular Top Division Rikishi (16 Basho, 2 Special Prizes, 2 Kinboshi--gold star wins by a Rank and Filer [Maegashira] against a Yokozuna). He fell out of favor with the Sumo authorities for various infractions and was suspended from July 2020 to March 2021 (with a drop in ranki all the way to Makushita 56w [3rd Division, non-salaried].  Since coming back he has won consecutive Makushita Yusho (Championships) with perfect scores of 7-0. This is his first Basho back in Juryo (2nd Division--salaried), and it will be interesting to see how long it takes him to get back to the Top Division.

Tachiai.org is following the Jonokuchi Division Basho of this Tournament. Jonokuchi is Division 6, the lowest division, non salaried. Today there was no video.

Notable:

Hakuho (Y1e) easily won his 2nd consecutive match, disposing of Endo (M1e), but a pall was cast over the Tournament by what looked like a possiblly serious shoulder or neck injury to Takakeisho (O1w) during his loss to Ichinojo (M2w). Right after the tachiai (initial charge) Takakeisho looked defenseless as Ichinojo ushered him out. He leaned motionless from the floor against the raised dohyo. He was quickly ushered out in a wheel chair. His status for the rest of the Basho is unknown at this time. Terunofuji (O1w) won his 2nd match, but not before a tremendous fight (over 24 seconds) with new Komusubi Wakatakakge (K1e). The other Ozeki, Shodai (O2e) disposed of January Basho winner Daieisho (M1w) in less than 3 seconds. For the 2nd consecutive day the rank and filers (Maegeshira) held their own (2-3) v san yaku (Top Rankers). They are now 4-6 against their betters. After two days in the May Basho, they were 3-9. Two of the top Maegashira in that Tournament are now san yaku. Ichinojo and Hotukofuji (M3e) are both undefeated at 2-0 v the Top Rankers. The first week of any Basho is always difficult for the high rank and filers, as most, if not all of their schedules are laced with Top Rankers.  And Rookie Ichiyamamoto (M17e) suffered his first Makuuchi defeat at the hands of Chiyonokuni (M16e).

Nikkansports.com carries the most exhaustive coverage of Sumo that I have seen. It publishes multiple daily articles about the Basho.

All coverage is in Japanese and can be accessed from the Nikkansports Sumo Wrestling News Page. It can be easily (if not well) translated by Google Translate, which can be easily attached to your browser for seamless "translation." It is the next best thing to being able to read Japanese.
